PRINTING & ENCODING FAQs
1. ARE METAL SKIN COMPATIBLE WITH INDUSTRY PRINTERS?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels can be printed and encoded on leading Industrial RFID and Barcode printers such as: Sato, Toshiba, Zebra, Postek, Printronix.
Printer settings are to be adjusted to the label thickness.
2. WHAT MAKES XERAFY METAL SKIN LABELS SPECIAL?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels are extremely thin and flexible thanks to their award-winning design. On the other hand, most RFID labels available in the market are designed with a spacer that creates a gap to shield the antenna from the metal, which makes them thick and rigid.
3. HOW WELL DO METAL SKIN PERFORM ON AND OFF METAL?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels are designed to be read when applied on metal surfaces, as well as on other industrial materials. When read on air or unattached onto a metal item, they can be read on both sides. The global frequency design of Xerafy Metal Skin labels allows applications that require the same tag to be read in different countries with different frequency ranges.
4. WHAT IS THE READ DISTANCE OF METAL SKIN?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels can be read up to 13ft (4m) on metal surfaces, and up to 16 ft (5 m) off metal.
5. WHAT IS THE FREQUENCY RANGE OF METAL SKIN?
Xerafy Metal Skin are RAIN UHF RFID labels designed to respond over the global frequency range, including US, Europe, and Japan from 860-960MHz.
6. WHAT IS THE BEND RADIUS AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT READ RANGE?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels are the thinnest printable RFID labels available in the market that can be applied directly onto metal surfaces. The more the label is bent, the shorter the read distance.
For the purpose of determining a guideline, we’ve defined acceptable performance as 50 percent of the expected performance. If the label is horizontally oriented, the minimum bending radius is 1.6 in (40 mm). If the label is vertically oriented, the minimum bending radius is 1 in (25 mm).
7. HOW THIN ARE THE METAL SKIN?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels vary in thickness between 0.029in (0.76 mm) and 0.043in (1.1 mm). Due to Xerafy Metal Skin’s unique design, the thickness of the adhesive should not exceed 0.006 in (0.15 mm). There is no constraint on the thickness of the face-stock material.
8. WHAT SIZES ARE METAL SKIN LABELS AVAILABLE IN?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels are available in three different references: Mercury, Platinum, and Titanium.
9. DO METAL SKIN COME ENCODED WITH UNIQUE EPC NUMBERS?
Xerafy Metal Skin labels can be encoded with EPC numbers, either by the customer or by Xerafy. The information is stored in the label's TID memory bank and is retrieved with standard fixed or handheld readers.
