Xerafy’s XS tags, specifically designed for the healthcare industry to survive repeated autoclave cycles, were designated the most innovative EPC/RFID product at the GS1 Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Awards 2013. XS also picked up a bronze medal at the HK RFID Awards 2013.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Awards and HK RFID Awards are annual industry awards established by GS1 Hong Kong in 2008. The awards were established to bring recognition to pioneering enterprises, which have successfully brought EPC/RFID technology into their business operations, encourage the adoption of EPC/RFID technology by businesses in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region, and foster the development of new EPC/RFID products and services.
Xerafy’s XS tags are designed to comply with the most stringent FDA requirements for medical devices and the tags will withstand repeated autoclave sterilization cycles. The extremely low profile and ability of XS tags to be embedded in metal allows small tools and medical instruments to be RFID-enabled at the point of manufacture.
Prior to Xerafy’s tag solution, surgical instrument level tracking within the healthcare industry was limited either to permanent laser OR marking which required line of sight or at best high frequency tags, which needed to be read at proximity and could not support multiple reads, making the process slow, labor intensive and limited to basic track and trace.
“We are honored to receive these prestigious RFID awards,” said Dennis Khoo, CEO of Xerafy. “Since the launch of the XS tag series, the healthcare industry has been quick to jump on the opportunity for innovative use of the product to tracking surgical tools and medical device companies working to RFID enable the instruments.”
The Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Awards will be presented at a ceremony at the 2013 Guangdong-Hong Kong RFID Technology Application Summit on September 17, while the HK RFID Awards will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 8 during the GS1 Hong Kong Supply China Management Excellence Summit 2013.
